HTML Formatter & Minifier

Beautify or minify HTML markup with before/after payload reduction metrics and client-side privacy.

Input HTML252 characters
Result (Formatted / Minified)0 characters

What Minification Can Silently Break

Whitespace is meaningful in more places than people expect: inside <pre> and <textarea>, between inline elements where a space renders (removing it closes a visible gap — sometimes wanted, sometimes a layout change), and inside attributes whose CSS selectors depend on it. Inline JavaScript with missing semicolons can also break when lines are joined. The safe workflow: minify a copy, compare rendered output, keep the original as the editable master.

Safe Minification of HTML

Minifying removes comments and collapses whitespace between tags. Be careful in places where whitespace matters: inside <pre> and <textarea>, and between inline elements, where removing the space can make words stick together.

The size saving is typically 10 to 25 percent before compression and much smaller after gzip. Keep the readable source for editing and minify only the deployed output. Verify the minified page renders the same before replacing the original.

How the Tool Works

  1. Paste your HTML markup, whether hand-written or generated.
  2. Choose Beautify to add consistent indentation, or Minify to strip whitespace and comments where safe.
  3. The stats panel shows the original size, the result size, and the percentage reduction.
  4. Copy the output or download it as an .html file ready to deploy.

Example Input & Output

Minify a landing page fragment
Input: 12.4 KB hand-formatted HTML
Output: 9.1 KB minified HTML (−27%)
Removing whitespace and non-essential comments reduces payload, which speeds up first paint on slow connections.
Beautify a build artifact
Input: One-line HTML from a template engine
Output: Indented, readable markup
Formatted markup is essential for debugging server-rendered output and for code review.

Common Questions

Is minification always safe?

The minifier only removes whitespace and comments that are safe to strip. It never rewrites JavaScript or changes semantics, so the page renders identically.

Does it handle inline script/style?

Yes, but inline JavaScript and CSS are preserved byte-for-byte — minifying those is the job of the dedicated CSS/JS tools.

Is my markup uploaded?

No. Everything is processed client-side, which matters when working with proprietary templates.
