File Analyzer / File Information

Comprehensive browser-native file analyzer to inspect MIME types, dimensions, media streams, character counts, and cryptographic hashes without server uploads.

100% Client-Side Privacy: Your files are analyzed entirely within your web browser using HTML5 & Web Crypto APIs. No files or metadata are ever transmitted to an external server.

Drag and drop any file here, or browse your device

Supports Images, Video, Audio, PDF, Text, JSON, CSV, XML, ZIP archives, and more

The Extension Is a Suggestion; the Header Is the Truth

File types are identified by magic bytes at the start of the file, not by the name: a renamed .exe still carries its executable signature, and a corrupted download may lose its declared type entirely. Inspecting the real header is how you catch mismatched extensions before double-clicking them, verify that an "exported PDF" is actually a PDF, and identify files whose extension was lost. Size, timestamps and hash round out the picture for documenting evidence or debugging transfers.

How the Tool Processes Your File

  1. Drop any file onto the analyzer. Media files, documents, archives, and text files are all supported.
  2. The tool reports name, extension, detected MIME type, and exact byte size from the file header and browser APIs.
  3. For images it shows dimensions; for audio and video it shows duration, tracks, and codec hints where the browser exposes them.
  4. For text-like files it offers a character count and preview, plus an optional SHA-256 checksum of the whole file.

Typical Use

Inspect a video before upload
Input: recording.mp4 (120 MB)
Output: video/mp4 • 1920×1080 • 00:02:30 duration
Checking real dimensions and duration before uploading avoids failed platform conversions and lets you verify the file is complete.
Identify a mystery file
Input: download.xyz (48 KB)
Output: image/png based on signature
The analyzer reads the file signature rather than trusting the extension, so it can identify files even when extensions were renamed.

Common Questions

What MIME types are detected?

Common images (JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP, AVIF, SVG), audio (MP3, WAV, OGG, M4A), video (MP4, WebM, MOV), PDF, text, and JSON/XML where the browser can read them.

Is deep EXIF inspection included?

For a full EXIF dump use the dedicated EXIF Viewer. The analyzer focuses on container-level properties: format, dimensions, duration, and size.

Is my file stored anywhere?

No. The file is read once into browser memory for analysis and never transmitted or persisted.
