UTM Campaign URL Builder
Create properly formatted UTM tracking links for Google Analytics — with naming-convention hints and a live preview of the final URL.
Values are percent-encoded correctly and appended without breaking existing query parameters.
A Naming Convention Survives Longer Than Any Campaign
UTM data becomes useless when the same source appears as "Twitter", "twitter" and "t.co" in three different reports. Decide lowercase everywhere, source = platform (newsletter, twitter, linkedin), medium = the kind of traffic (cpc, email, social, referral), and campaign = the specific push in kebab-case — then encode those rules once in a doc and follow them mechanically.
Two more habits: never use UTMs on internal links (they restart attribution sessions mid-visit), and URL-encode every value — a space in a campaign name arrives as %20 and splits your data anyway.
How the Generator Works
- Enter your landing page URL plus the campaign fields: source, medium, and campaign name (required for meaningful reports).
- Add term and content optionally — content is ideal for A/B distinguishing two links to the same ad.
- The builder encodes values correctly and appends them to your URL, preserving existing query parameters.
- Copy the final tagged URL, or generate a short list of variants for different placements.

Common Questions
Which fields are actually required?
utm_source and utm_medium are the minimum for meaningful reports; utm_campaign is strongly recommended. Term and content are optional.
Does UTM tagging hurt SEO?
Tagged links shared publicly create duplicate URLs, but a self-referencing canonical (see the Canonical URL Generator) solves that completely.
